Shooting at the Canari Islands part two

The last two weeks have been really busy, but I finally got to finish up the shots from our vacation at the Canari Islands. I wanted an "assignment" to shoot while we where there, and luckily enough norwegian Bik Bok announced a styling contest just weeks before we left. My girlfriend Marthe works at their local store, so we had access to a fairly big amount of their collection.

Marthe did a great job as my model during this week with close to no experience in front of the camera!

The first shot was actually my first time using my Lastolite Ezy box on location. It worked out great! The conditions on this shoot were far from optimal. The location we were supposed to use had a car parked at the worst position, and we had to start looking for something else that would work. We had like 20 minutes of daylight when we arrived on this location and being literally on the beach the wind was getting pretty intense. In order to get my light at the right place I had to put it half way up some stairs. I found a couple of rocks and for some reason my light stand managed to be steady enough for me to get a few frames before the sun went down.

This one was shot during our location scouting (this is not a contribution for the styling contest). I just love how the late sun light cast this long shadow over the wall, as well as creating some really nice shadows in the corners.

Shooting at the Canari Islands part one

I just spent a week at the Canari Islands with my girlfriend Marthe. As always my main problem was limiting my photo gear for the trip. We had actually planned to have a couple of shoots over there, and this didn´t make my choise easier. I even ended up bringing my 90x90cm Lastolight Ezy box (yes, I guess I do have a problem), which I had not been able to test on location yet. The beauty of this soft box is that it folds down very nice, and wont take too much space in your bag.

I´ve been spending some time lately looking at my own work and I have realized that I need to start stepping out of my comfort zone. This time I wanted to do some dreamy high key portraits, using only natural light. I had an idea of the setup in my head, and it didn´t take me very long to find a location.

We got started about two hours before sunset. My idea was to have the sun hit the wall and get a wash of light from behind to wrap around Marthe´s face. On the right you can see a picture of the setup. It´s a very simple setup. I didn´t use a flash in the soft box. Instead I used it to block the sunlight and to bounce some light back into Marthe´s face to get a very soft and even light.

It was really nice to have the possibility to have a continuous light source and be able to just fire away without thinking of your flash not reloading quickly enough!

Here are some of the shots from the shoot. Enjoy!

Lukestar @ Folken

Yesterday I had the honor of shooting Lukestar, one of my favorite bands the last couple of years. The three years I have been waiting to see these guys was definitely worth waiting for! As I am used to shoot concerts at smaller venues, this was a very different experience for me when this was a fairly big venue. Still, Lukestar put on an amazing show, and I was able to get a lot of great shots.

If you don´t already know these guys, make sure to check them out on myspace or their website. They just released a new album called "Taiga" which is really good!

Normally I stick to only a couple of shots per post. I had a hard time pick out the pictures for this blog post, so I ended up with a lot of images this time.
Enjoy!

Social Suicide @ Checkpoint Charlie

I had the pleasure to shoot the hardcore/screamo band Social Suicide a couple of weeks ago. I have shot them a couple of times earlier, and they have an intense live show, packed with energy which makes them really fun to shoot! The venue was really dark, and I had a hard time getting the shots I wanted. I think some of them turned out ok though.

Make sure to check them out at

Tomorrow I will be shooting the norwegian band Lukestar! I am really excited as they have been one of my favorite bands for the past couple of years.

Portrait shoot with Ingrid

I recently did a shoot with my sister Ingrid. She needed some shots for her thank you cards after her confirmation, and I thought I could get some practice from this as well. When we started to shoot we had about 3°, so it was pretty cold as we shot for almost three hours. I originally planned this shoot on an outside location, but of course the rain started pouring down just hours before we were about to start. I decided to try to shoot in a abandoned warehouse which worked out really well.

Here are some of the shots:

I also used this opportunity to challenge myself to shoot some frames with all natural light. This is something I don´t normally do too much during a shoot, and something I really need to work on.

I finally got my blog up and running!

After wanting to do this for a while, I figured it was time to start blogging. I´ve been doing photography for a couple of years now, and I have now started the process of building my portfolio. My blog will be continuously updated with my work as my portfolio develops. It will also contain behind the scenes shots from my shoots and projects.

As I am a first time blogger I would love to get some feedback on my posts, and how to improve my blog.

I already have some some shots from a recent shoot coming up within the week!

Here is a shot I made a back in 2008. It will appear in one of my upcoming series!
